COMMERCIAL ASSESSMENTS PROVIDES SOLUTION TO ACCESSIBILITY COMPLIANCE

Chantilly, Va. June 2007 - Commercial Assessments, a Division of U.S. Inspect and a leading provider of commercial assessment services nationwide, launches “Fair Housing Accessibility Evaluations” nationwide.

Why Fair Housing Accessibility Evaluations?

The Fair Housing Amendment Act of 1988 made it unlawful to design and construct certain multifamily dwellings in a manner that makes them inaccessible to persons with disabilities. The Act also established design and construction requirements. The Act applies to properties built for first occupancy after March 31, 1991

Lawsuits related to this Act have been filed against multifamily developers and owners nationwide.

According to the National Apartment Association (NAA), “Advocacy groups continue to target apartment firms in high-profile lawsuits alleging violations of the federal Fair Housing Accessibility regulations. To help firms understand and respond to this very critical matter, NAA/NMHC [convened] a free one-day conference, June 5, 2007 in Baltimore, MD specifically focused on compliance and legal issues.”

“Commercial Assessments was alerted to the need in the industry for these evaluations from top professionals at the heart of the issue,” said Pete Cook, Director of National Sales. “And because of our established national infrastructure and expertise, we were able to respond immediately and provide the services required. Our Fair Housing Accessibility evaluations help our clients determine whether buildings meet the Fair Housing Amendment Act’s requirements before they become involved in a lawsuit.”

Commercial Assessments spoke at the NAA/NMHC accessibility conference in Baltimore and is attending the 2007 NAA Conference later this month to showcase their services for multifamily owners, buyers, and developers, Cook said.

Pioneering services in the industry is not unfamiliar territory for Commercial Assessments. Its parent company, U.S. Inspect, LLC, has been servicing client needs and keeping customers abreast of emerging trends for more than 20 years, having performed over 1.7 million inspections and assessments.

Founded in 1986 as an engineering company that designed radon equipment and provided testing services, the company has grown to become a leader in home inspection and commercial assessment services.

Commercial Assessments performs property condition assessments, Phase 1 environmental site assessments, commercial construction draw inspections, reserve studies, condominium conversion consulting, construction plan and budget reviews, and fair housing accessibility evaluations for multifamily properties.
