Additional Services

In the State of New Jersey, home inspector licenses only allow inspectors to conduct home inspections. All other services are called additional services and can be provided at the time of your home inspection but require separate licenses/certifications and a separate fee.

U.S. Inspect's inspectors are also NJ State Licensed Radon Measurement Technicians and NJ State Licensed Termite Pesticide Applicators. Our inspectors can provide radon testing and termite and wood-destroying insect inspections as "additional inspection services," performed during the home inspection at the client's request. We also have septic and environmental inspectors.

Do I Need Additional Services?

"Additional certification/inspection services" beyond the basic home inspection are likely to be part of the contract and required by the lending institution. These generally include septic, well, radon, and wood destroying insects, and sometimes lead testing. We advise you to hire professionals with specific licenses for your certifications. Wood destroying insects, radon, lead, and oil tank certifications require a NJ State license.

Septic Certification

For septic certifications we strongly recommend you hire a NJ Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS) or a NJ Professional Engineer (PE) because you want a licensed professional who understands disposal system design, installation, and function. Beware that the typical "open pit" septic inspection only opens the septic tank and offers limited information about the field or seepage pits, which are the most expensive components of the system! If you want the most comprehensive septic evaluation, your inspection should include opening a small cross section of the disposal field or seepage pits (depending on the design.)

Environmental Tests/Inspections

Separate from the home inspection, environmental inspections/testing such as asbestos, lead, underground storage tanks, UFFI may also be desired.
