The final step in setting up the drip irrigation for the season is to attach it to the water supply system. In my case that is the municipal water system. In the first photo below I have assembled the materials and tools needed to make the final connections. There is a pressure reducer, a two way flow splitter, some pipe fittings and screw clamps. This is a single station with two lines.

A few weeks ago, I gave you an introduction to drip irrigation systems as I shared with you my own system via video, as I got it up and running for the system.

Here's a follow up video to that. I cover how to make some more repairs and expanding parts of the system. Near the end I cover the difference between emitters and perforated lines. Hint: The bottom line is the end result is the same, but the perferated lines are easier to work with.

Enjoy the video.

What is Grading?
We home inspectors tend to talk a lot about grading around the house, and its implications. What is grading? Simply, the grade or grading around your house is the level of the ground. The ground level and how it’s graded is the deciding factor of where storm water will flow.

Last week I received a comment on one of my HOME STAR legislation updates, asking what the timeline was for the bill. So I wanted to let everyone  know that today, Thursday, May 6, 2010 the House is scheduled to vote on H.R. 5019, which will authorize $6B for HOME STAR, aka "Cash for Caulkers" (a name, by the way, that I dislike). It has bi-partisan support and should pass, but only time will tell.

Last week I put my drip irrigation system into service for the season, along with some basic repairs. For those of you interested in the subject previously, I also recorded the process on my digital camera.

I'm not a videographer but for those of you interested in learning more about the basics of drip irrigation, perhaps some of the information will be useful.

On Thursday, April 15, a day after Rep. Peter Welch (D-Vt.) introduced the Home Star Energy Retrofit Act (H.R. 5019) (VIDEO BELOW), the House Committee on Energy and Commerce approved the bipartisan bill by a vote of 30-17. Welch's energy efficiency retrofit initiative would create 170,000 jobs and save homeowners $10 billion dollars on their energy bills in the next decade by providing direct incentives to consumers to install energy-saving measures.

What Is HOME STAR?
You know ENERGY STAR, the Department of Energy's (DOE) home appliance and new home construction ratings for energy efficiency. Now meet HOME STAR, a federal program under consideration by the White House that would create more than half a million new jobs over the next two years by offering homeowners direct incentives for improving the energy efficiency of their homes.
