Buy Your Wife An Island for only $250
I was enjoying reading Paul's Picard's post about his new townhouse kitchen. Especially the part about running up and down stairs to grill. I've was there too in our first home. But I was particularly impressed with how they worked in a kitchen Island in a townhouse. Gave it great look.
My wife and I always wanted a kitchen with an island counter top in it, and lately we've been watching more Food Network (now in HD!) and loving how Ina Garten works in her kitchen. We're on our third home now, and the kitchen has grown, but it's still only medium sized:
Well, my wife called from Bed, Bath and Beyond one day and said "Hey, I found a kitchen island!" I was skeptical it would fit in the car, but we got it. Here is how the kitchen looks now:
It made it slightly cramped but the form factor was so slight that it wasn't too bad; but it really improved the functionality. Even I like to cook more now.
So, for a couple hundred bucks you can give your kitchen a whole new look, and give it the functionality of a much larger kitchen. It had never occurred to us. We always figured the island counter top would come in some future house with an even bigger kitchen. So, I thought I'd pass along that tip for those looking to improve their homes, but only had a limited budget. It was a pretty quick assembly as well.
And also, it's great to be able say to my wife "Well, you must know I love you. I bought you a whole island!"
