CO Alarms Are Now Required in Colorado
There are new Carbon Monoxide requirements in Colorado. Revised State Statute 38-45-103 (Lofgren and Johnson Families Carbon Monoxide Safety Act) now requires that all existing single and multi-family dwellings offered for sale or transfer after July 1, 2009 have an operational Carbon Monoxide alarm installed.
The requirement is for residential dwellings that have a fuel-burning heater or appliance, a fireplace or an attached garage.
- The alarm must be audible and located within 15 feet of an entrance to each room lawfully used for sleeping.
- The alarm can be battery powered only or plug-in with battery backup.
- The alarm can be a combination smoke/carbon monoxide device.
- The alarm must be listed and comply with UL 2034 Standard.
