Daylight Savings Ends: Change Your Clocks and Your Smoke Alarm Batteries

Did you show up for work an hour early today? Or, oops, two hours early?? Well, if you didn't already know, yesterday Nov 01, we changed our clocks because Daylight Savings Time ended, and if you were a two hours early person, we turned them back 1 hour, as we do each fall. (Fall back, spring ahead, as they say).

Clock

Now, twice a year when we change the clocks in our house, we also do something else. (You may have heard this tip before, but it's definitely an oldie but goodie!). We change the batteries in our smoke alarms and test the functioning of all our detectors. Since we are told by fire safety experts that we should do this twice a year, doing so when we change the clocks in the spring and fall is a fantastic way to remember!

So if you successfully changed your clocks last night, but haven't checked your smoke alarms and batteries yet, do so as soon as you get home. If you forgot to change your clocks or moved them the wrong way--well, fix your clocks, check your alarms--and then treat yourself to a nice nap!

Stay safe, and check our blog often for more great tips and home safety information.

Installing Smoke Alarms Saves Lives

Submitted by wirefree burglar alarms (not verified) on Mon, 03/14/2011 - 1:48am.

It is imperative for every homeowner to install a smoke alarm in their residence. These devices can prevent property loss and save the lives of your family members. This is why I purchased one from my wireless burglar alarm provider.

Placing your smoke alarms strategically

You should also place them in areas where there is higher pecentage of fires originating such as in kitchens. Don't forget to mount near sleeping areas so you will be able to hear the siren when the alarm goes off. Source: http://www.wirelessalarm123.com.

Handy Tips for Ensuring the Effectiveness of our Smoke Alarms

Submitted by wireless burglar alarm (not verified) on Tue, 02/22/2011 - 11:04pm.

This is an informative post. Simple tips such as this can easily be taken for granted but they are very important. If you do not regularly check security devices such as smoke alarms and change their batteries, you render your smoke alarms or a wireless burglar alarm ineffective and you might regret not taking care of these devices when there is an emergency.
