HOME STAR Energy Retrofit Act of 2010 UPDATE

On Thursday, April 15, a day after Rep. Peter Welch (D-Vt.) introduced the Home Star Energy Retrofit Act (H.R. 5019) (VIDEO BELOW), the House Committee on Energy and Commerce approved the bipartisan bill by a vote of 30-17. Welch's energy efficiency retrofit initiative would create 170,000 jobs and save homeowners $10 billion dollars on their energy bills in the next decade by providing direct incentives to consumers to install energy-saving measures.

I believe that the bill moves on to the full House for a vote. One interesting note. In the same Senate bill, there is a typographical error. In SB 3177 on page 57 line 3 It seems the money set aside for Gold Star is $1,638,000. It should be $1,638,000,000. Ah, the wheels of government grind on. Stay-tuned for more updates, and check out the video below of Rep. Peter Welch (D-Vt.) as he introduces the bill at the press conference.

Hi Willy. I wish I could answer your question. Since our elected leaders have a habit of changing their minds, the HOME STAR legislation will be altered before it is sent to President Obama for his signature. Only then will your question be answered. Most likely there will be a start date, before which no work would be eligible.

Will this bill be for

Will this bill be for consumers that are doing work now and in the future, or can people that have just finished major jobs?

On Thursday, May 6, 2010 the House is scheduled to vote on H.R. 5019 which will authorize $6B for HOME STAR aka "Cash for Caulkers" (the name which I dislike). It has bi-partisan support and should pass. If you want to contact your representative go to www.house.gov enter your zip code, locate your rep, and email them urging them to pass this legislation.

I'm wondering what the timeline is for a vote?
