Unique Properties: Real Gingerbread House
It's a REAL gingerbread house! With the Christmas holiday just 4 days away, I just couldn't resist featuring this "property" on our blog this week. You are looking at the 2010 Grand Floridian Resort's famous Gingerbread House. Every year, Disney World Resort Chefs bake and erect this spectacular, nearly life-size holiday treat.
The Victorian masterpiece not only makes your mouth water but your jaw drop! At 16-feet tall, it takes approximately 800 pounds of flour, 1,050 pounds of honey, 700lbs of chocolate, 600lbs of powdered sugar, 140 pints of egg whites, 35lbs of spices and 840 hours of labor to build.
I researched and found that guests can visit the house up until Dec 31st from 10am to 10pm, and while they are looking at the house they can enjoy tasty homemade treats from the Grand Floridian Bake Shop like Oreo cookie chocolate pops, gingerbread shingles, and peppermint bark. (For a somewhat steep fee, but it all sounds quite yummy to me!)
Feeling inspired? Wanna make a Gingerbread Palace of your own?
I've always wanted to make one of these, but never have. But if you are interested, there's still some time. The Chocolate Belle's of brick, New Jersey teach classes, but they have shared their Six Tips for Making a Gingerbread House here. Give it a try--and enjoy your holiday!
