Unique Properties - Kentucky Castle

Last week, as I was on my way to pick up my daughter, I passed “the Castle” in Versailles, Kentucky, right outside of Lexington and approximately one mile from Keeneland Racetrack. I’ve always been fascinated by this unique property. It seems odd and out-of-place along this beautiful drive in one of the prettiest parts of Kentucky, past horse and cattle farms.
The Castle has a real fairy tale story, well, kind of. Curiosity, mystery and rumors have always surrounded this castle since it was built around 1968 by home builder, Rex Martin. The story goes that he and his wife honeymooned in Europe, she fell in love with castles, and wanting to please his new bride, Martin built a 10,400-square-foot, six-bedroom “castle” with a huge library and swimming pool, a dozen turrets, four corner towers and 12-foot walls. Unfortunately, the Martins never lived there as they divorced before the property was completed. It remained vacant and it was rumored that Martin didn’t want to sell it because of his broken heart.
Martin died in 2003. A few months later, a Miami attorney and a local businessman, Thomas Post, purchased the property for a cool $2 million. Six months later, the castle caught fire and was then rebuilt.
Today, it’s known as The Castle Post, an upscale bed and breakfast. If you’re ever in the neighborhood, check it out. According to their Web site, "If you’re ever in the mood for a unique getaway, enjoy horses, both racing and grazing, and want to place a wager at nearby Keeneland, you can always book the Turret Suite for $1,295 per night. For those on a tighter budget, the State Room is available at $375 a night."
Do you have any interesting homes/properties in your area? We’d love to hear about them. Feel free to post here!

Unique properties
What a gorgeous property! I love browsing the internet in search of beautiful homes. I have convinced myself that the more I show my husband these homes, the more likely he will buy or build me one someday. We live in Indiana, so we're not too far from Kentucky... Maybe we'll come visit this place sometime!
