Tales of a First-Time Home Buyer: Room with a View

I have mentioned the ongoing construction in our neighborhood in previous blogs. The loud hammer strikes in the morning, the dirt smell, and the overall ugly look it gives our street has us wishing it will be over soon. The houses appear to be approximately 75-percent complete and should be nearing the end. Alas, one more row of townhouses is to be built, and after that our little neighborhood will be completely construction-free!

Due to the construction, the view from the kitchen in the rear of our house is not the greatest in the world, but we can imagine what it will look like once the construction is complete. It’s shaping up to be a pretty good view!

Room with a View

Looking out the back of our house (see the above picture) there are trees to the right, a playground straight back, and new townhouses to the left. There is also an asphalt-paved running path which connects to much longer running paths. My wife and I are avid runners and the running path might have sealed the deal for us at the signing table.

When we purchased the house, one of the major plusses to us was that there is a tree conservation area adjacent to our row. This area will never be developed, which gives is a nice view and keeps it a little more private. I have actually seen a few deer amongst the trees. The playground is nice for the kids in the neighborhood, but we are definitely not ready for that. And the new homes to the left may not look great now, but when they’re done they will create a nice townhouse courtyard of privacy.

We really like the openness of the view from the back of the house. It seems like most townhouse neighborhoods are arranged in rows one after the other, so you look out the back of one house and see nothing but another row of houses. But ours has this nice open community area, trees, and a running path. We think the neighborhood is planned out very well. Maybe we are thinking a little over-positively, but we really do believe it will be a nice view.

We are excited for the construction to be over and our view to be complete. Soon we will have a deck in the back as well, so the sooner the new homes are done the better. Bring on the view!
