As radon testing providers for almost 25 years, we receive many questions about the effects of radon in water. Because August is National Water Quality Month, we thought it was only fitting that we share the top twelve questions and their answers.

What's on tap? And I'm not talking about at your local bar, I'm talking about your home water tap. Do you know the quality of your drinking water?

August is National Water Quality Month, so I thought it would be nice to devote some time throughout this month to talking about this important topic. Here are some basics from the EPA about water quality at home and how to make sure your tap is tops! See their website for for more.

The President’s cancer panel has just released their latest annual report to the president. It highlights environmental causes for cancer in our food, water, and air, and calls for action to reduce exposures. Nuclear medicine has been rapidly increasing in its contribution to the public’s annual radiation exposure. However, the top contributor to the general public’s annual radiation exposure is still from radioactive radon gas and it’s decay products.

My results are in! I had My First Radon Test placed on Friday last week, and my friend and U.S. Inspect colleague, Mike Conte, picked it up yesterday afternoon.

Radon levels in my home are 3.6 pCi/L. That is below the EPA action level of 4pCi/L. Great. But I'm not exactly jumping for joy. Why? Well, as you may have noticed, my result is not all that far below 4pCi/L, now is it? Hmmm...

Mike Conte is coming by to remove my radon monitor today! I am very close to finding out my results and will share them with everyone soon.

But first, I got some really good questions on my first blog post, and I wanted to quickly answer them--thanks Jim and Robyn!

First, Jim asked: "Is that an outside wall where Mike placed your radon monitor? Cause I'm pretty sure that's not right."

Gee, well this is embarassing. I don't really know how it happened. I was going to get it done, but it just never happened. The longer I waited, the less I thought about it and then it was 5 years later and...

I never got a my house tested for Radon.

Radon - How Often Should You Test?

As part of our "coverage" of National Radon Action Month, I thought we could take a look at a question that seems to be getting some discussion lately—How often should you test your home? A colleague of mine shared an interesting analogy with me that helps put frequent testing into proper perspective. She compared radon testing to medical checkups. You get your teeth checked twice a year. Women and men get their respective cancer screenings, usually annually. We don’t just do these one time and then say cool, I’m in the clear.
