Unique Properties - Fireproof House

How would you like a fireproof house?

We've been talking about Fire Prevention all month long, and well, a fireproof house? Is it too good to be true? Wouldn't that be the ultimate in fire prevention?

It's exactly what architect, Eric Lloyd Wright set out to do. (Yes, that name should sound familiar. He is Frank Lloyd Wright's grandson). In fact in 2007, Eric actually lost his temporary home, which sat next to his fireproof home construction site, in a devastating California brush fire, while the concrete, fireproof home was completely unscathed.

Incidentally, his famous grandfather, Frank Lloyd Wright once designed a fireproof home too (I never found in my research that Eric's design was at all inspired by his grandfather's--but I imagine it had something to do with it--well that, and the fact that Eric and his wife Mary live atop the fire-prone Santa Monica Mountains over-looking Malibu, Calif. His grandfather's fireproof home plans were never actually used to build any fire proof homes though. Ironically, a few people used his plans but instead of concrete, they used wood and stucco. So the homes were not fireproof in the least.

But a fireproof home is actually possible. And Eric Lloyd Wright's home stands today as an example of one that has already proven it's strength. (It is earthquake proof as well--built right into the bedrock of the mountain).
