What's Wrong With This Picture? Twisted Main Support Beam

Answer: Questionable Installation; Structural Evaluation Needed

If that beam is as twisted as the picture makes it look, it was a very good decision to have a home inspection scheduled before proceeding with this purchase. This issue can now be dealt with before the closing.

What Is A Zinsco Panel and Why Should I Care?

Zinsco or Zinsco-Sylvania is the name given to a brand of electrical panel that was commonly installed up to the mid-1970's. It was a very popular product and installed throughout North America. Production was halted when design flaws were discovered. However, previously purchased panels were still being installed for a time after that.

Incandescent Lighting And New Energy Standards

2012 has arrived and so has implementation of new federal standards requiring your basic 100-watt light bulbs, as we've known them, to be replaced with more efficient lighting, including Compact Fluorescent Lighting (CFL's) and Light Emitting Diodes (LED's). This newer generation of lighting has been proven to generate less heat, which in turn requires less energy, while continuing to provide an equivalent amount of light of their predecessors.
