Advisory Report

May 2000

Read All About It: Pools, Hot Tubs, Energy Conservation and More!
Everything you ever wanted to know about your pool, hot tub and conserving energy in your home is just one click away--new technical information has been added to the House Facts section of the U.S. Inspect Web site.

If your home has a pool, hot tub or spa, there are general requirements that should be considered to ensure the safety of the occupants.  Do you see any rust or leaks coming from the pumps and piping?  Take a peek at our checklist or simply learn all about your pool and hot tub.

As many people unveil their pools and slide their thermostats from the heating to the cooling system in their homes, there are a few things to keep in mind that could save you energy--and money.  Exterior compressor/condenser units should be kept clean and free of all leaves and debris; they should never be covered or otherwise boxed-in, and shrubs and hedges should be cut back.  This restricts the free flow of air and reduces the gas-to-liquid process and efficiency of the system.  Learn more about how to save on your energy bills.

U.S. Inspect's House Facts papers incorporate digital pictures and graphics to complement the technical information presented.  Keep an eye out for future issues of the Advisory Report, which will highlight new information that has been added to U.S. Inspect's online technical library.
