Home Insulation Deemed a Serious Health Threat
Insulation commonly found in homes may pose a serious health risk to millions of residents nationwide.

According to the Washington Post (August 23, 2000), the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services agencies are investigating whether or not the insulation, produced under the name Zonolite, contains asbestos.  The insulation in question was manufactured by W.R. Grace & Company.

According to the W.R. Grace & Co. Web site, Zonolite Attic Insulation was primarily used in older homes to retrofit or add to existing insulation.  It was seldom used in new home construction.

Microscopic asbestos fibers can become lodged in the respiratory system and lead to asbestosis or scarring of the respiratory tissues.  Learn more about the health risks of asbestos.
