Inspector Licenses Required in Massachusetts
Home Inspectors in the state of Massachusetts who wish to continue performing home inspections in the state must obtain home inspection licenses by May 1, 2001.
The approved legislation requires that associate inspectors be supervised by fully-licensed inspectors. In addition, all building inspectors must pass a written exam, meet educational requirements, carry at least $250,000 in errors and omissions insurance, and take continuing education classes.
Massachusetts is the most recent state to pass home inspection licensure legislation, joining Connecticut, Louisiana, New Jersey, North Carolina, South Carolina and Texas. Other states that have enacted home inspection regulations are Alabama, Arkansas, California, Georgia, Maryland, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Rhode Island, Tennessee and Wisconsin.
