Part Three of Three: Your Sprinkler System
One last thing to do before your lawn is put to the mercy of those dreadfully hot summer months: Start up your sprinkler system! Below is a list of items your local sprinkler contractor should check when your system is used for the first time this year.

Re-pressurize the system

Check backflow prevention devices for proper operation

Check for leaks

Open each individual zone manually to observe its operation

Check each sprinkler head for proper operation

Adjust the sprinkler heads for proper coverage of your lawn

Check the rain sensor (if you have one) for proper operation
You should also check your sprinkler system yourself, every month or so, to maintain proper operation and efficiency. If a sprinkler head is broken and leaking, it can really impact your water bill! Utah’s Division of Water Resources has put together a good checklist you can use. Their web site also has more useful information regarding water conservation.
