Well Water Usage Estimations

Flush water closet:                    1 to 5 gallons

Shower:                                       15 to 25 gallons

Operate dishwasher:                  12 to 15 gallons

Wash load of clothes:                 40 to 55 gallons

Assumptions

  1. Highest usage rate at awakening-- normally a 1 to 2 hour period in morning.
  2. Each person takes a shower and flushes the water closet twice; total 25 to 35 gallons/person.
  3. Each household washes a load of dishes and clothing, 50 to 70 gallons.
  4. Two people per bedroom.
  5. Assume a 30 to 40 gallon storage tank.
